It’s that time of year again – for covered employers to post the OSHA 300A, i.e., a summary of the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred last year. The OSHA 300 Log is not required to be posted, only the summary. Employers with ten or fewer employees and employers in certain industry groups are normally exempt from federal OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping and posting requirements. A complete list of exempt industries in the retail, services, finance, and real estate sectors is posted on OSHA’s website.
The summary must list the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred last year and be logged on the OSHA 300 form as well as information about the annual average number of employees and total hours worked. Companies with no recordable injuries or illnesses in the prior year must post the summary with zeros on the total line. The summary must be certified by a company executive and displayed in a common area where employee notices are usually posted. A copy must be also made available to employees who move from worksite to worksite, such as construction workers, and to employees who do not report to any fixed establishment on a regular basis.
