OSHA Publishes Fact Sheet on Opioid Overdose Reversal Medications

On September 24, 2026, OSHA published a fact sheet addressing the use of Opioid Overdose Reversal Medications (OORMs) in the workplace. The Fact Sheet provided information on (1) how OORRMs work; (2) the two FDA-approved OORMs; (3) how employers can obtain OORMs; (4) maintenance and storage; (5) key employee training topics; and (6) provided additional resources. The Fact Sheet can be accessed here.

Although OSHA does not require employers to keep OORMs at the workplace, there may be applicable state law obligations. OSHA regulations do address when employers are required to have adequate first aid supplies readily available. See 29 C.F.R. § 1910.151(b). If employers elect to keep OORMs in the workplace, the Fact Sheet recommends they be kept in easy-to-reach locations such as first aid kids and suggests that larger workplaces may wish to keep multiple kits in different locations.

An employer should consider a number of factors in determining whether it should keep OORMs at the workplace, including a review of its workforce and industry profile to assess the likelihood of an emergency and whether any applicable Good Samaritan laws apply.
